Week 2: The Chaos Begins

Four battles erupted in the streets of Mordheim, as warbands ventured out of their camps in search of wyrdstone and other valuables. Lurking through the shadows of the Poor Quarter, the Skaven Assassin [INSERT NAME HERE] led his warband deeper into the city of the damned. Whiskers twitching with anticipation, the vile rodent could sense the presence of another group of warriors. Leaving his comrades in the center of the quarter, the assassin found his way through the darkened alleys in search of the enemy leader. He did not find the leader though, instead he found himself staring down the barrel of a pistol. His panicked attacks failed to hit their mark, and with a puff of smoke the world around him faded to darkness. It was several hours before his Skaven comrades would find his limp body, and drag it back to camp.
Mordheim's Rich Quarter still holds untold treasures, and unseen dangers. The potential perils were of no concern to the Dwarven Noble, Kirk, as he led his band of treasure hunters into the once proud home of Mordheim's cultural elite. The Trekkers were not the first to happen across the rich quarter though. Unfortunately for them, this realization would come too late as the streets quickly filled with Skaven. While the dwarves tried valiantly to hold their ground against the surprise attackers, the onslaught was simply too much. The Skaven would eventually return to their shadowy hiding places, but not before rejoicing in the retreat of the dwarves.
Elsewhere a band of witch hunters found their way to the Cemetery of St. Volmer where they made a horrifying discovery. Since the crash of the Great Comet, much of the local flora and fauna has been warped beyond recognition. Amon and his witch hunter comrades found themselves face to face with one such mutation; a monstrous spider! While this terrifying arachnid commanded the attention of the witch hunters, a group of possessed emerged from their hiding places amongst the scattered tombstones and set upon the unexpecting warband with unrelenting force. No one knows for sure what came of Amon and his warband.
Lastly, the Imperial Armoury was another site of conflict as Frederik Van Hast and his undead troops sought to gain a firm foothold here. While Frederik himself was knocked unconscious during the fray, his evil followers would give no quarter to their enemies. Fighting bitterly, the fear-invoking warriors arose victorious, even without the instruction of their vampire leader. Making a full recovery, Frederik awoke to discover the Armoury firmly under his control.

Scenery Update!

Scenery can really add a new dynamic to any table top strategy game, but games of Mordheim in particular seem to benefit especially from a few simple additions to the battlefield. As The Tainted Campaign continues, I'd like to add new scenery elements to our repertoire. Ideally this will continuously add new points of interest, and inspire our imaginations as our warbands do battle!
One element I've noticed seems to have a great impact on the game, is the use of foundations. By adding multiple levels of playable surfaces to the battlefield the game begins to take a completely different tactical angle. With that in mind, I've built the first of our Mordheim foundations. It sports a 2" elevation, with brick details compliments of a Warhammer plastic fortress set. The top is textured with card, and dry wall compound. I'm realy happy with this and I can't wait to add a couple more to our scenery selection.

Week 1: Ambush at the border town

To kick off our Mordheim campaign, we held a multi-player battle which would determine the starting locations of all warbands involved. As the campaign progresses we will hold other multi-player games which will offer some sort of bonus to the winning side. For the purposes of these multi-player games, we've divided ourselves into "Good" or "Evil" forces respectively. Luckily, with the six players in our campaign group we are divided evenly down the middle; Three good warbands, and three evil ones.

"Like moths to the flame, the blind sheep come bounding out of the woodwork. From all corners of the Old World, warbands of all sorts come to stake their claim in the City of the Damned. In these early days of the mass pilgrimage to Mordheim's borders, a few warbands of just hearts learned of a caravan of wicked warriors making their way to the forsaken city. The forewarned 'good' warbands mutually agreed that the purification of Mordheim must first begin by delaying the approach of this unsavoury lot. With that in mind, they lay in wait within small bordertown. There they waited...and waited.
When finally the evil forces reached the ambush site, it was a band of rogue Reiklanders who first stepped into the righteous warriors' trap. Witchhunters, and Sisters of Sigmar descended upon the treacherous warband giving them no quarter. But as the Reiklanders fell to this assault, a second wave of evil journeyed into the city gates.
Perhaps too ambitious, the Dwarves who lay in hiding charged into the fray. Four of the stunty fighters fell one after the other from a higher level of the city, crashing to the ground at the feet of an Undead horde, flanked almost unnoticed by a Skaven force. It was at this point that the battle seemed it may sway to the favour of the evil forces.
For some time a fierce combat filled the main street of town. Sisters, and Witchhunters collided with the undead horde, as the Skaven lurked around the western flank. Sneaking through ruins and rubble, the vile rodents went nearly undetected. Thanks be to the Dwarves for dwindling their numbers before they could escape the confines of the border town and continue their advance on Mordheim. Seeing their chances of survival vanishing quickly, the Skaven horde fled the scene, leaving only the Vampire Frederik Von Hast and his Undead band of warriors in the thick of the battle.
Wise to the ways of combat and military tactics, Frederik retreated with his shambling host of villains into the shadows from whence they came. As daylight spread once again across the small town, the forces of good congratulated each other on a job well done. Cautiously, they bid one another fair well, knowing that the next time they meet it may be on the battlefield, and their allegiances may no longer be the same.
Be weary brave warriors, for Mordheim, and the power of the Shadowlord have a way of twisting even the most just of hearts."

Introducing The Tainted Campaign

"Woe to he who treads the blood soaked streets of Mordheim. Fore the City of the Damned clutches the souls of the wicked, and twists the hearts of the just. The call to riches and fame has stretched through the farthest reaches of the Old World, and your masters have ordered you answer it.
Tread carefully brave warriors, for the shadows of this forsaken town shelter horrors that no mortal can imagine. Believe when I tell you the rewards only barely outweigh the dangers that you are sure to incur."

The Tainted Campaign is a map-based campaign set in the renowned and feared City of the Damned. Players will be fighting to control as much of the city as possible, as each battle is fought a district will be claimed by the victor. Some areas, you will find, will even bestow certain bonuses to the controlling warband. The campaign will utilize the advanced critical hit charts, and blackpowder rules.

"The Great Scorched City is surrounded by what was once thought to be an inpenetrable wall. But the fall of the Shadowlord has changed much here. The wall, and much of the city is as shattered and broken as the souls of its inhabitants. Today vagabonds, thieves, and scavengers plague the expanses of Mordheim. They pour into her boundaries through any crack or crevice they can find in her perimeter.
You are not unlike these ruffians. Damned vermin. Blindly scurrying to the call of your master. Risking your life and that of your comrades for a taste of the riches which are believed to remain here. Find your niche then, rodents. Choose wisely, for this is the beginning of your plunge into darkness."
